I am Sabine Djernaes and these are my Foodie Notes. I love everything kitchen (oh, all right – a sinkload of dirty dishes is a little further down on the list…) cooking and eating. I like variety in the food I make and around here, some weeks feel a little culturally confused, like a trip around the world; Indian one day and food from America’s South West the next – life’s too short to eat boring food.
I grew up in Hannover, Germany, went to the University of music and drama there. I’m a musician and music teacher. I moved to California with my husband, Martin, and lived there for 8 years and moved again, to Denmark, where we settled near Roskilde. We have to boys, aged 13 and 9.
Food and diversity have always been an integral part of our family and during our years in California especially, I learned a lot about all kinds of different foods and sun-kissed ingredients.
In Denmark, I made the jump from foodie to professional foodie. I’m the boss lady at Juciful and I make ice pops – fruity, flavorful, fresh ice pops with no nonsense added and I’m proud of them!
Foodwise, California has taught me a lot – and it is with a new understanding of “fresh” and an affinity for flip flops that I moved back to Europe and changed profession; but when it comes down to it, making food is a lot like teaching: oftentimes it requires a good bit of patience and everytime you hope you get it just right.
